Arizona defenders tackle a University of Utah player at Arizona Stadium on Nov. 13. The Arizona defense held Utah to 21 points in the first half.

The University of Utah football team defeated the Arizona football team 38-29 in Tucson at Arizona stadium.

Head coach Jedd Fisch made a tough decision by going for it inside Utah territory in the first quarter on fourth and five. The play ended up working and resulted in a touchdown from quarterback Will Plummer on a 43-yard rush.

Plummer completed 18 of 32 passes for a total of 219 yards and two total touchdown passes. Plummer also led the team in rushing yards with 50. He did not turn the ball in today’s game after doing so twice a week ago against California.

Dorian Singer was the Wildcats leading receiver with five catches for 84 yards. Stanley Berryhill finished the game with four catches for 52 yards.

Kicker Lucas Havirsik made a 57-yard field goal that gave the Wildcats a late lead before halftime. This field goal tied Havirsik's career longest made kick. Tyler Loop also made two field goals for Arizona.

“Special teams has become a big part of trying to flip the program,” Fisch said.

A few minutes into the fourth quarter, Isaiah Taylor blocked Utah's punt and Rhedi Short recovered it for an Arizona touchdown to bring the game within two points.

Utah outscored Arizona 17-12 in the second half of the game after the Wildcats' defense couldn't stop Utah's running back TJ Pledger. He finished the game with 25 attempts for a total of 119 yards and two touchdowns.

“I think the last four games have been an example of when you play us you better be ready to play,” Fisch said. “What pleases me is the fact that our guys are so committed to making this thing right."

Arizona has also now covered the betting spread in their last three games. Utah was favored by 24.5 points before this contest.

Arizona's next game is next Friday at Washington State at 7:00 P.M.
