NCAA declares Zach Peters eligible to play this year

After transferring from Kansas to Arizona, Zach Peters has been provided with a fresh start as the NCAA approved the redshirt-freshman’s waiver request Thursday evening, allowing him to play in 2013-14.

Peters is a 6-foot-10-inch, 238-pound forward and will provide necessary depth and versatility to the frontcourt. The Plano, Texas native is also comfortable taking shots beyond the arc and will be able to put up a consistent jump shot.

Peters enjoyed success in high school and was a four-time All-State selection. He initially enrolled at Kansas last year, but was plagued with a series of concussions and declared his intention to transfer in November.

While Peters didn’t play any regular season games with the Jayhawks, he averaged 5.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in Kansas’ four-game summer trip to Switzerland and France.

Peters is expected to help fill the gap left by Grant Jerrett.
