The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) awarded University of Arizona men’s golf a Team Academic Award on Wednesday.
The award goes to teams with a collective grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This year, a record setting 143 teams were recognized for reaching that average.
“As a program, we’ve outlined goals that emphasize success in the classroom, as well as on the course,” Arizona men’s head golf coach Jim Anderson said in a press release.
This year has been academically productive for the men’s golf team, with rising senior Erik Oja, recent graduate Trent Redfern, rising junior Alex McMahon and rising senior Benson Liu earning Pac-12 All-Academic honors in the spring.
The GCAA honored Oja and Redfern as All-America scholars last week. This award recognizes students with a minimum 3.2 GPA and who fulfill off-course requirements.
“Having two All-America Scholars this year is a great accomplishment, and I’m confident that we’ll have more candidates in the years to come,” Anderson said.
