9/11 Tower Challenge 2016

September 9, 2016 at 4:56 pm

Firefighters, officers, members of the military and other public servants gathered at Arizona Stadium early in the morning of Sept. 9 to commemorate the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 by climbing 2,071 stairs to represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center in the annual 9/11 Tower Challenge. Three challenges were held across Arizona at the same time - in Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe and the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff with an estimated 10,000-15,000 public servants and volunteers in attendance. All proceeds from the Tucson event are split between The 100 Club of Arizona, a group committed to "standing behind the men and women who stand behind the badge" and Fisher House Foundation, a housing project for injured veterans and their families.
