From the archives: The 2003 University of Arizona football team

In 2003, the University of Arizona football team faced off against 12 other universities, two of which are pictured here: Purdue University and UCLA. The Wildcats lost to Purdue 7-59, lost to UCLA 21-24 and would end the season with a 2-10 record.

Tucsonans protest hours after US Supreme Court reverses Roe v. Wade June 24

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade the morning of Friday, June 24, nearly 50 years after the landmark ruling. Within hours, Tucson Women's March and other activist groups across the country called for action and organized protests in response to the court's decision. By 7 p.m., roughly a thousand protestors gathered outside of the Evo A. DeConcini U.S. Courthouse in Downtown Tucson.

After a Tuesday, May 3, Pro-choice peace rally, more protesters gathered at the steps of the Tucson Courthouse Sunday, May 8. The protesters ask for abortion to stay legal as the Supreme Court leaked draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Pro-choice activists gather at the steps of the Tucson Courthouse to protest a recent news leak about the U.S. Supreme Court leaning towards approving the reversal of federal abortion laws. These activists made signs to spread awareness to people passing by on Tuesday, May 3. 


Desk assistant: Student job profile

Desk assistants at the University of Arizona's dorms are responsible for assisting residents with day-to-day needs such as mail, keys and amenities. This customer service job combines flexible hours with a low-stress working environment. Desk assistants are a vital part of the dorm life community and serve as the first point of contact for students stepping into a dorm. 


Daily Wildcat photographer Matthew Maxim stepped into the world of UA desk assistants and got a look into the student desk job.  


UA's Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum sparkles and shines

The University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum is located in the Pima County  Historic Courthouse in downtown Tucson. Since its inception in 1918, the museum has housed a variety of mining and mineral related collections. The museum has changed location several times, moving from the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium to its present location when renovations of the courthouse were completed in 2021.


UA memorializes lives lost to COVID-19

On March 23, the University Religious Council hosted a day of "memory, healing and hope" to memorialize the lives of Arizonans lost to COVID-19. The event was held on the University of Arizona Mall and featured speeches by President Robbins and others. 2,800 flags were placed on the lawn, some with handwritten messages, with each flag representing 10 Arizonan lives lost to the virus.

Arizona Women's and Men's Basketball Senior Pictures

Arizona basketball thanks the five graduating seniors from both men's and women’s teams at their final home games in McKale Center. Only one senior has plans to return to the University after this season, so we wish the other four the best of luck in their future endeavors.  


Arizona men's basketball team wins Pac-12 Trophy

The Arizona men's basketball team celebrates after its win against the University of California, Berkeley, earlier this month, winning it the Pac-12 title and trophy. With the Pac-12 champions banner and trophy, the Wildcats would cut down the basketball net and run through the crowd to memorialize the date in Arizona basketball history. 


Arizona Women's Basketball Team Wins Senior Night

Arizona women's basketball team took on University of Southern California on Saturday, Feb. 26, in McKale Center. The Wildcats would start off slow but would end the second quarter with two big three-point shots to put them up by one going into halftime. The 'Cats would continue their shooting run, beating USC on senior night 68-59.

Arizona women's basketball team plays ASU for the second time in three days. The Wildcats lost in their first matchup against their Pac-12 rivals days before. With a strong defense, and a big night for Madison Conner scoring a career high of 16 points, Conner helped the Wildcats win the game 62-58. 


The Arizona woman's basketball team defeats Pac-12 rival Oregon State University

The Arizona woman's basketball team took on a Pac-12 rival Oregon State University. The Wildcats would take the early lead going into half-time and continue their scoring run as the second half began. The Wildcats would finish the game victorious winning 73-61. 


Arizona Men's Basketball team Defeats UCLA in Nail Biter

The University of Arizona Men's Basketball team wins a close game against a PAC-12 rival The University of California, Los Angeles. The UA Men's Basketball team took the early lead on the UCLA Bruins and never let up. They would finish the game on top 76-66. 


Arizona MBB beats ASU in home game

The Arizona men's basketball team defeated ASU in a home game in McKale Center on Jan. 29. The teams stayed neck and neck up until the end with a final score of 67-56.
