Bernie Sanders in Tucson
2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders held a rally at the Reid Park DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center on Friday, Oct. 9. According to Michael Briggs, a Sanders campaign official, 13,000 people attended the event.
"Stand Up Against Hate" Rally
The "Stand Up Against Hate" rally, organized by Sumayyah Dawud, with the "Anti-Colonial Anarchist Bloc" acting in solidarity, was originally intended as a counter-protest to the cancelled anti-Islam "Let Freedom Ring Freedom of Speech Rally" led by Dean Remington. Despite the cancellation of the original free speech event, the two responding groups continued with a more generalized message against hate. Both groups assembled at 4 p.m. on the southwest corner of the intersection of North Euclid Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard and later marched together to the Ronstadt Transit Center in downtown Tucson after confirming no one was protesting outside the Islamic Center of Tucson.

Arizona Education Budget Protest
Concerned Tucson community members, teachers, and parents protest against Gov. Doug Ducey's recently based budget outside of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber luncheon on Friday, May 1st outside of the Student Union Memorial Center. Gov. Ducey's new budget plan includes limited funding to K-12 schools, canceling state funding to community colleges, and cuts nearly a $100 million from public universities.

Tails and Ales Benefit Dog Wash
The Tucson Roller Derby and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona host the Tails and Ales Benefit Dog Wash at the Barrio Brewing Company on Sunday, April 12. Derby girls offered dog washes for $15 to donate to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

The Human Project hosts a 24-hour block party "1 Block 1 Day" on Stone Avenue between Congress and Pennington streets on from 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 to 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 5 in downtown Tucson. The purpose of 1 Block 1 Day is to promote peace and unity, free from gender, racial, economic, or social biases for one day on one block.
