Confronting Scarcity Team | Spring 2021

'Confronting Scarcity' is a collection of reporting, commentary, maps, audio and video aimed at destigmatizing and amplifying the conversation around food and basic needs insecurity. Produced during the University of Arizona's Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 terms by a student collective, with students and the university community in mind.

Pascal Albright (they/them) | Pascal is a fourth year journalism student who has worked in many roles at the Wildcat throughout their UA career. Currently the managing editor, they have held roles including photographer, designer, audio producer, arts & life editor and engagement editor. Besides surrounding oneself with the stories of their community, they enjoy a good bike ride, some rest and only the best cups of coffee to enjoy in the desert oasis, even during a pandemic.

Kristijan Barnjak (he/him/his) | Kristijan is a sophomore majoring in PPEL, Economics, and Philosophy. He was a senior news reporter for the Daily Wildcat in Spring 2021, before taking over as news editor for the Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 terms. He respectfully requests that the COVID-19 virus goes away so he can move back to campus and see his friends again because he misses them very much.

Ian Green (he/him) | Ian is a senior majoring in journalism at the University of Arizona. The prospect of inspiring exploration, learning and empathy has led him to choose that field of study. Over the past four years since moving to Tucson, he has taken on a variety of roles at the Daily Wildcat while making the Old Pueblo home. He loves being outdoors (especially on absurdly long hikes and bike rides), trying new things (especially food and drink) and his job making the most tasty teas for people at the Scented Leaf.

Dillon Lukas Hlohinec (he/him/his) | Dillon is double majoring in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL) and Political Science, with minors in Spanish and Philosophy. He currently plans to attend grad school for philosophy. His email is

Ella McCarville (she/her) | Ella is a sophomore majoring in Journalism and Spanish and minoring in computer science. She spends her free time drawing and roller skating.

Sofia Revilak (she/her) | Sofia is a Masters Candidate in Global Journalism graduating in Spring 2021. She obtained her BA in Political Science from The University of Notre Dame in 2019 with minors in Business Economics and Peace Studies. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, her research interests focus on identifying and critically analyzing linguistic manifestations of power in media portrayals of transnational migration flows and marginalized populations. She has production experience in multimedia storytelling and enjoys producing feature profile pieces, in particular. A professional swimmer by trade, Sofia has previously represented Mexico internationally at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, the 2018 Central American and Carribean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, and the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru where she obtained a bronze medal for her prelims performance in the Mixed 400 Freestyle Relay. She brings a unique multicultural and interdisciplinary skillset to this cohort rooted in intercultural sensitivity, tolerance and empathy-driven reporting.
