Why settle for Batman when we have Robbins? I think our university president is amazing for many reasons, not the least of which is that he has actual superpowers. He made this evident during the Zona Zoo pep rally on campus last week.

You’re at Spring Fling and you’re about to get on the Zipper. You probably paid about $7 to ride this. You waited for the tickets, and now you’re waiting in line again. You can hear the screams of actual terror above you, but if anything, it makes you smile.

“Should English be the official language of the United States?” Max, a volunteer for a booth at the International Mother Languages event on the University of Arizona campus, asked me recxently. I answered no, based on logic. From the experience, though, I learned how much more conviction that ‘no’ has when it is based on people. When making political judgments, we should all act on the cliché and, “step into another person’s shoes.”

I think a lot of people my age spent most of their reading time growing up with big-name, young-adult fiction series, like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Eragon and Uglies.

Six months ago, I was shocked the president moved to actually end DACA. I’m even more shocked that we are fast approaching the March 5 deadline — and Congress has nothing to show us. I know people are calling their congressmen and congresswomen. I have friends who are DACA recipients, and they are protesting in Washington, D.C. — yet it feels like nothing the people do matters.

People say Tucson is just a “really big small town.” When I started getting involved in the community, I realized that our “small-town vibe” is not something we can take for granted. It is created, in part, through the interconnectedness of the spheres of Tucson’s community.

Last week, the Daily Wildcat’s cover story revealed to readers systematic gender-based pay discrimination at the University of Arizona. I was shocked! At a university that boasts its business school, I couldn’t understand why the university would hire men at all, if it could hire women at a lower price. In order to make the most of its money, the university should transition to hiring only female deans.

When I tell people that I’m a PPEL major, I primarily get one of three responses: first, “what’s that?;” second, “very cool” and the controversial third, “that’s the one affiliated with the Koch brothers, right?” Well, as for the third question, I know about as much as the next person. What I can speak to, however, is my experience so far in the PPEL major — what we learn about and the biases I perceive (from my own biased perspective, of course). In short, I love my major, and I know that I am receiving an education unlike anything I could receive anywhere else.

It’s been a year since we watched the Electoral College numbers unbelievably swing in Donald Trump’s favor. The next day, many students wore black, cried, sat silently in class or refused to show up in order to mourn the result. Today, the biggest tragedy is that a lot of our peers have never recovered from the shock.

Several times, my own experience has shown me where the UA has fallen short on providing necessities to students, and although the effects on me were relatively minor, these problems should be addressed.

Last Friday, classes were cancelled. The Honors College closed early and professors moved their office hours to accommodate the football game. It may seem contradictory for a university to make this move. However, the University of Arizona is not just a school; it's a community. That is what makes this school so special.

On Sept. 5, millennials across the nation gasped collectively. President Donald Trump put into motion the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. This decision began a new era in the relationship between the president and young adults in America — a relationship that will have lasting effects on the U.S. political atmosphere.

Last year, a group of my friends and I were surprised to learn about the proposed honors college village because it seemed to come out of nowhere.

The power to secure the fate of 800,000 undocumented children and students should not have been left to Congress (a body of people who have produced little results on any issue as of recent.)

If the University of Arizona were to do a survey on the most hated areas on campus, I’ll bet the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid would make it into one of the top-five spots.

Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a STEM major — women too.

Listening to conversations about dining on campus, I found there was a common theme last year: It was difficult to find accessible, healthy food.
