Blax Friday: A look into the directory for local Black-owned businesses

In the summer of 2020, Blax Friday was created on the premise of highlighting black owned businesses across Tucson, Ariz. The original business plan was to introduce a new Black owned business every Friday, but this quickly grew into something much bigger. Within the first month, the platform erupted and switched from once a week updates to full-on partnerships across the Tucson area. Now, almost a year later, the Blax Friday team continues working to educate and uplift the Black community in Arizona.   Read more

'Locals Only' art show skates onto Fourth Avenue

Stepping off the sidewalk into &gallery on Fourth Avenue, my ears filled with softly-playing punk music. I had stepped in to see the &gallery’s show of the month called “Locals Only Skate Deck art show,” which invited local Tucson artists to express themselves on the unconventional canvas of the skateboard deck.  Read more

A conversation with 'The Simpsons' producer Rick Polizzi

For many college students, "The Simpsons" was a staple cartoon. With the first "The Simpsons" shorts airing in 1987, the show has been alive longer than many University of Arizona students. On Feb. 15, students in UA School of Anthropology professor David Soren’s Art History of the Cinema class were given the opportunity to attend an exclusive online lecture with Rick Polizzi, a former producer of "The Simpsons."  Read more
