Center for Innovation re-opens

Gov. Jan Brewer presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the UA’s Science and Technology Park, which marked the re-opening and dedication of the Arizona Center for Innovation, a business support center specializing in technological developments on Wednesday. Read more

UA tops in state per-student funding

The UA has historically received thousands of more dollars from the state general fund per full-time equivalent (FTE) than the other Arizona universities, a disparity that could be another reason for an ongoing debate to switch to a performance-based funding model for higher education. PHOENIX — The last time there were so many Wildcats together in Sun Devil territory was when the UA men’s basketball team made it to the Elite Eight. More than 1,400 incoming freshmen, friends and family showed up on July 31 for the 2011 Phoenix Summer Send-Off at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort to get immersed in all things red and blue. The Pride of Arizona marching band played the fight song, which nearly drowned out the crowd’s chants of, “U of A … U of A.” Read more

Regents move toward funding change

The state Legislature is requiring the Arizona Board of Regents to submit a new funding formula this year for the three universities that would link state funding with gains in certain performance areas. Read more
